McDonalds Speedee System

Speedee system

The genius of the McDonald brothers – using lean principles to invent the fast food concept back in 1948!  Meanwhile, Toyota produced a total of 21 cars in 1948.

“Orders ready in 30 seconds, not 30 minutes.”  Richard “Dick” McDonald marked out a tennis court with the layout of their kitchen and had the staff act out their operations.  After changing the layout several times they arrived at a configuration which choreographed fluently, “a symphony of efficiency, not a wasted motion.”  Then they had the kitchen rebuilt to that layout.
